Where Bacchus is, Venus also dwells - wine and love - two holidays in one day: February 14, St. Valentine and St. Tripun, one a celebration of love, the other of wine. Taste the drink of Gods and spend one unforgettable day on this trip

A one-day tour

The holy marthur Tripun, the patron-saint of the vines and the inn-keepers, is believed to be the protector of vineyards and gardens and people have been celebrating his nameday by performing various rituals. The day he died is in fact the day that is celebrated, Februaruy 14 (according to the new, Gregorian calendar).

The traditions connected to the celebrating of St. Tripun are best preserved in the Negotino and Kavadarci region, as well as around Demir Kapija. On this day, the vines are pruned and then follows a great ceremony with lots of food and drink which celebrates the start of the new season at the vineyards [macedonian winery tradition-more...].

This one-day tour also encompasses a visit to Kavadarci and attendance at a mass in the church of St. Dimitrij. Water that was blessed during mass is taken to the vineyard and sprinkled over the wines to ensure abundant yield. The rituals of blessing and pruning the vines are performed next and thus the new wine season is officially opened!

Following is a visit to the wine cellar Vila Marija near Demir Kapija. Vila Marija was established in the days of the royal family of Karadjordjevich who were famous for the vines they grew and the wines they made.

Return to Skopje.

Lunch will be included in this tour at the restaurant "The Watermill" (Vodenica), an inn where traditional dishes are served accompanied by supreme wines.
