The number and diversity of over 155 completely preserved monasteries and 90 monasteries in various stages of disrepair suggest a past of a people whose story is that of creation, art and spirituality.

The monastery konaci (dormitories) are full of monks, very young men and women who have dedicated their lives to serving God and the people. They will greet you in front of the doors that are always open for everyone.

They cherish old monastery and Macedonian customs; lokum and cold water for welcome, followed by sightseeing of the monastery mostly arranged in the Byzantine style and decor.
