The Secrets Hidden In The Caves
This is a journey through one of the most picturesque parts of western Macedonia - along
the canyon of the river Radika - and to the beautiful town of Struga. Inact nature, a
symphony of colours, pictorial and idyllic nature make this part of the country attractive
all year round. A special treat are the caves and the cave churches that
need to be discovered…
A two-day tour
Skopje - village of Trnica - village of Tresonche - monastery of St. Jovan Bigorski -
Struga - village of Kalishta - village of Radozhda - Skopje
Day one:
09:00 AM, Departure from Skopje
10:30 AM
Arrival at the village of Trnica and breakfast
11:30 AM
Continue towards the village of Tresonche - stop on the way at the bridge
Elenski skok.
Arrival at the village of Tresonche and tour around the village and surrounding area
The village sits at an altitude of 1000m and it is spread over several hills. It used
to have 13 neighbourhoods, 4 churches and one paraklis (a very small building, usually
built on road-sides, where icons were placed and passers-by could say their prayers and
leave a coin or two). Optional visit to one of the churches and the paraklis of
Sveti Ilija (St. Elijah).
Continue on foot to the cave Alilica. A 45-60 min walk along the canyon of Tresonechka River
that springs up from the Alilica cave. Visit to the cave accompanied by specialized
guides - speleologists. The cave is rich in stalactites, stalagmites and lakes.
16:00 AM
Return to the village of Tresonche and continue the journey to Struga
Short stop on the way to Struga at the monastery of
Sveti Jovan Bigorski,
tour of the monastery (45-60 min). This monastery was built in the 11th century
and it contains the largest and most intricate woodcarved iconostasis.

19:30 AM, Arrival in Struga and dinner
Day two:
08:30 - 10:00 AM, Breakfast and checking out of the hotel
Visit to the
monastery complex of Kalishta
that contains the cave church Uspenie na
Presveta Bogorodica (the Ascension of the Holy Virgin Mary) that was built
in the 14th or 15th century.
Continue towards the village of Radozhda, visit to the church cave of
Sveti Arhangel Mihail
(Holy Archangel Michael) that is embedded into natural rock, in one of the most
beautiful landscapes on the coast of Lake Ohrid.

Lunch in the village of Radozhda
17:00 AM, Departure for Skopje
