The Untouched Beauty Of Matka
A one-day tour
This tour will include a walk and a visit to the church of
St. Nicholas Shishevski
(Sveti Nikola Shishevski), an enjoyable scenic journey by boat to the Monastery of
St. Andrea where traditional lunch will be served. The St. Nicholas Shishovski Monastery
is situated on top of the cliff above Lake Matka, thus giving the visitor a spectacular
view of the lake and its surroundings.
As with most beautiful locations in Macedonia there is a monastery
church, St. Andrea. The Monastery St. Andrea was built 1389 and contains
frescos of great artistic value.
DETAILED SCHEDULE FOR THE TOUR
9:00 - 9:45
Skopje - v. Matka
09:45 - 10:00
Parking v. Matka - Church of St. Nicholas Shishevski.
There is around 15 min (until 10:15) of time for a visit and a short walk around the church.
After that you will go further uphill (15 minutes) to a location situated above
the church of
St. Nicholas Shishevski
which affords an excellent view of
the whole canyon, so don't forget your cameras. You will have around 15 minutes
to admire the nature and the beauty of the canyon.
11:15
From the church of St. Nicholas Shishevski you will reach a small port where you will
have to call a boat (by ringing a bell) to come from the other side of the
lake (the boat ride is half an hour from the port to the Monastery St.Andrea).
12:00
Arrival to the Monastery St. Andrea. You will have 20 minutes time to walk around
the monastery as well as to have a short rest before you continue to the next point.
12:20 - 12:50
Easy walk to the region called Severno sedlo (the Nothern Saddle), another place
from where you can admire and enjoy the beautiful nature of the Matka canyon.
13:30
You will be served a traditional lunch and you will have enough time to rest.
After lunch, you can again go for a boat ride, after which you will return to
the parking lot by foot, and return to Skopje.
17:00
Arrival in Skopje.
