Take a seat in the King’s throne!

A medieval fortress built on a fascinating spot, a king's throne, a cave that hides a spring of healing water, huge cakes and breads, an elephant on a colorful carpet - does this sound like a fairytale? The location of the Fortress of Krali Marko (Markovi Kuli) is full of surprises - visiting it is like travel through time.

Prilep – The City beneath King Marko’s Fortress

Reconstruction of Prilep over the Middle Ages Situated in the central part of Macedonia, Prilep is one of the oldest cities in our country, and a place where one can feel the spirit of our medieval era, a city  which always stood as a stronghold of Macedonian rulers, a city devoted to its culture and tradition, its legends and heroes, now home of wonderful cultural sights, charming nature and excellent food complemented by the smile of pleasant hosts.

10:00  King Marko’s FortressThe Fortress Of Krali Marko
Arrival in Prilep and ascent to Markovi Kuli - one of the most memorable geo-morphological locations in Macedonia, a combination of human and natural work of art, a place full with legends, with panoramic view of the entire area and the extraordinary forms created by nature in the course of millions of years. You will have an opportunity to go into Marko's cave, to see the Elephant, the colorful carpet, the bread, the magnificent throne and enter the once most beautiful medieval tower in Macedonia.

The St. Archangel Michael Monastery above Prilep11:00 The village and churches of Varosh
The composition of grand granite rocks that surrounds the space and the spirituality that springs from its monasteries and churches makes this site exceptional for those who want to hear stories for its medieval life. There used to be 77 churches built by King Marko of which same still remain:  St. Archangel Michael Varosh, St. Nicolas, St. Virgin Mary Perivlepta, St. Atanasij and St. Petar are the most beautiful ones.

13:00 Zrze Monastery
On the foothills of Mount Dautica is one of the oldest monasteries in our country with the oldest cave monastic complex in the Balkans from the IX century.  Monastery complex Zrze is consisted of the Holy Transfiguration, St. Petar and Paul, the Chapel of St. George and St. Nicholas found under the same roof. Archaic architecture typical for this area: houses with balconies decorated with flowers, wrapped up with peacefulness and deep tranquillity.

15:00 Prilep’s Old Bazaar
Prilep has small, pleasant and well maintained bazaar with orthogonal streets. Of interest are the Clock tower (the most beautiful one in Macedonia) built in 1858 and Carshi Mosque built in 1475, the only one in Europe with two balconies on its minaret (awaiting restoration).
