 Getting in Macedonia by Road

By road, Macedonia is connected with Europe with two main routes:
  • E75 highway is part of Corridor 10 with direction north-south, which is going from Serbia to Greece, passing through Macedonia, near Skopje
  • With Bulgaria and Albania, Macedonia is connected with E65, E852 and E871 which are parts of Corridor 8, with direction east-west
By car: The international highway E-75 is the most common route for overland tourists to take for entering Macedonia. There are also good roads connecting the country with Bulgaria to the east and Albania to the west.

By bus: A number of bus lines connect Macedonia with all neighbouring countries and other European cities. Buses are frequent, and offer relatively inexpensive fares and professional service.

 Getting in Macedonia by Train

Macedonia has rail connection only on the north to Belgrade-Serbia, and south to Thessaloniki-Greece. With Bulgaria and Albania, Macedonia is not connected yet, the railroads are in construction. Macedonian Railways web site.

 Getting in Macedonia by Air

There are two airports which connect Macedonia by air whit the world:
  • Alexander the Great airport in Skopje (SKP) and
  • St. Paul the Apostle in Ohrid (OHD).
There is also an option to arrive on Thessaloniki or Sofia airports, approximately 230 km far away from Skopje and Belgrade airport, 430 km away from Skopje.
There is unfortunately no airport shuttle bus yet in Skopje, which means travellers are obliged to take a taxi for the 17 km (10.2 m) trip to Skopje.  For more informations, visit the airport web site: www.airports.com.mk
